Namakkal District was carved out of Salem District and has been operational since 01-01-1997. It comprises 8 Taluks: Namakkal, Rasipuram, Tiruchengode, Paramathi Velur, Kolli Hills, Sendamangalam, Komarapalayam, and Mohanur.
The district is geographically located between 11.00° and 11.360° North Latitude and 77.280° and 78.300° East Longitude, spanning an area of 3368.21 sq. km. It is bordered by Salem in the north, Karur in the south, and Trichy in the east.
